FRAMEWORK
Visionary AU is an OC-heavy AU of the Sonic universe that takes place on roleplay Twitter four years after canon Sonic universe events. All major interactions are a mixture of script and improvisation, with multiple people playing multiple characters in the art of collaborative storytelling.
*Because of the nature of parody Twitter, character interactions, portrayals, and stories are not bound by canon. Some characters may interact even if they've never met in canon or act extremely different from how they do in official Sonic media. Seeing as every character is played by a different person, it is up to writer-interpretation as to how a character maneuvers this AU.
SUMMARY
Visionary follows 10-year-old Cream the Rabbit after she and her chao are captured by Dr. Eggman, injected with a mutagen called Ichor, and forced to adapt to their warped body and mind. What begins as a child’s attempt to prove herself as a hero soon becomes a fight for survival, dragging her deeper into Eggman’s manipulations and into the orbit of Anathema, a cybernetic hybrid with ties to the Ichor itself.
When Surge is later exposed to the same mutagen, her life becomes intertwined with Cream’s. Though volatile and reluctant, Surge begins to find in Cream the closest thing to family she’s ever had, and their fractured trust becomes a fragile anchor against the trauma binding them. Together they navigate captivity, sabotage, and the haunting side effects of the Ichor, relying on each other even as Anathema quietly coerces and guides from within. Looming over everything is the question of Anathema’s true nature. She is at once a mentor, manipulator, and echo of something much darker: her past and her ultimate designs hidden beneath layers of careful control. In the struggle between Eggman’s schemes, the Ichor’s mutations, and Anathema’s ambitions, Cream and Surge must decide whether their bond can protect them, or if it will be the thread that unravels them.TABLE OF CONTENTS
ARC SUMMARIES
Arc 1: Breaking and Entering
This story follows 10-year-old Cream the Rabbit, who begins sharing her everyday life online after creating a Twitter account. Through her posts, often simple, slice-of-life updates, she gains a small following and documents her interactions with friends and family.
Cream is a junior member of the Chaos Guardians, a loosely formed hero group led by Shadow the Hedgehog. When she receives a mysterious message stating that Sonic has been captured, she chooses to act on her own despite her mother's objections, sneaking out of her house to investigate. After she begins tweeting updates from her mission, Shadow and Knuckles intervene and go after her to provide support. During this mission, Cream successfully infiltrates one of Dr. Eggman's facilities and steals a hard drive, intending to pass it to Tails in hopes of uncovering Eggman’s future plans.
Upon her return home, Cream is grounded. Due to being on "house arrest," Cream ends up holding onto the hard drive until she can see Tails again. In the meantime, she resumes her usual life, though she becomes increasingly unsettled upon noticing her mother growing closer to Vector the Crocodile. This sparks emotional turmoil tied to unresolved grief surrounding her father’s death, which is revealed to have occurred when she was two years old. During this time she also begins alluding to strange nightmares that have progressively been getting worse.
Arc 2: The Bad Part
Metal Sonic eventually tracks down Cream, attacks her in her home, and forcibly returns her to Eggman’s base as punishment for stealing the hard drive. Cream is imprisoned and begins meeting various residents of the base, including Orbot, Cubot, and Sage. Multiple escape attempts are made but fail. Over time, Cream forms a bond with Metal Sonic, even causing him to bypass his programming temporarily. This act results in his full system reboot, erasing their connection. Orbot, sympathetic to her situation, quietly supports her from the inside.
Eggman initiates Phase Two of a project called Project_X042, which involves injecting Cream with a mysterious purple substance known as Ichor. Leading up to the injections, Cream begins experiencing vivid dreams and hallucinations of alternate versions of herself, often writing the phrase “see it all,” which holds unknown significance, and stops abruptly the first day of injections. This liquid drastically alters her physiology and cognition. Her eye color changes to a bright magenta, her IQ spikes from the mid-eighties into the thousands and she gains regenerative abilities. She no longer experiences most pain, hunger, thirst, or the need for sleep.
Cream’s Chao, Cheese, sneaks into the facility to rescue her but is also injected with Ichor and begins experiencing the same symptoms as Cream. Shortly after, Cream encounters Anathema, a technopathic cybernetic hybrid imprisoned at the base and forced to serve Eggman. Cream feels a strange connection to this hybrid and communicates with her briefly on occasion despite the limitations of their imprisonment.
*Cream begins developing tetrachromatic vision. She realizes the purple of the Ichor, as well as her eyes, is actually a color incomprehensible to the average mobian eye. She names this new color "prunkle" in an attempt to cope with the seriousness of her situation. Prunkle is the most frequently used word for Ichor, but for the sake of this summary sounding even a little bit professional, it will be listed under its official name.
As Cream’s abilities grow, Eggman returns her phone, intending to mock her and demonstrate her helplessness to the online audience she had accrued. She begins leaving cryptic clues online, hoping to guide someone, specifically Vector, to rescue her.
Metallix, another member of the Chaos Guardians, the group she was training in, contacts Vector after seeing Cream's situation. Despite Cream’s discontinued involvement in the group, he still feels a sense of responsibility for his former teammate. Using the clues Cream was leaving for Vector, they launch a successful rescue mission. With Metal having been reset and Orbot being the one of the only supportive figures within the base, he is broken out as well. Eggman sends Anathema to retrieve them, but she defects and flees instead. Cream is taken home, though she now struggles with the lasting effects of Ichor.
Arc 3: The Really Bad Part
Back at home, Cream begins displaying symptoms of Ichor withdrawal due to not receiving the final dose. She starts experiencing physical pain and severe mental distress. Because of Cream’s inability to honor her body’s needs, her mother arranges for her to receive a feeding tube, desperate to give her daughter some semblance of a normal life. Cream begins hearing a comforting voice in her head, which is later revealed to be Anathema, who had formed a mental link due to the experiment. It is revealed that Ichor is Anathema’s own blood, extracted and measured carefully for use in experiments. Anathema used their mental link to find Cream’s home and hide in her attic, attempting to grow closer to her without her family finding out about her presence. Cream agrees to this, wary that her family would be afraid of Anathema due to her appearance.
As Cream and Anathema grow closer, Cream isolates herself from others. Anathema uses her technopathy to hide references to herself from Cream’s family whenever something is posted about her online.
Cheese suddenly goes into a coma-like state, later deemed "the Ichor Coma", and is handed off to Tails, who was using the final dose stolen from Eggman’s base to try and find a cure for the effects of the Ichor.
Later on, Orbot confesses to Cream that if she does not receive the final dose, the Ichor will consume her blood and kill her, but was previously withholding that information due to believing they’d find a cure before it was too late. Desperate and in pain, Cream steals the final dose (and Cheese) from Tails’ lab and, with Orbot’s help, injects it herself after failing to research the cure on her own.
With the withdrawal symptoms gone, Cream tries to reintegrate into daily life, but her behavior becomes increasingly erratic. She begins testing her immortality through extreme actions, encouraged subtly by Anathema. She becomes further isolated from her family after seeing the distress she believed she had imposed on them by willingly taking the final dose, which only spurs on these impulsive decisions.
As the days continue, Cream notices a glowing sigil had formed on Cheese's back, a design with motifs resembling Anathema's appearance.
Eggman attempts to recapture Cream, sending Metal Sonic after her. He is defeated by Sonic and taken to Tails’ workshop, but Cream breaks in and frees him in hopes of rekindling their previous bond. This act causes public backlash, including harsh words from Sonic himself. Though he later apologizes, Cream becomes more withdrawn, turning further toward Anathema.
Cream meets Dusk, a Restoration operative who had been following her story through social media. Cream offers Dusk private information in hopes of finding a cure or understanding Ichor better, beginning Project: Ambrosia.
Metal Sonic later returns to Cream’s and tries to fight his programming and rekindle their friendship. Vanilla has a hostile offscreen confrontation, not at all trusting of him or his intentions after what he’d done to her daughter. Despite this, hints of their former friendship still remain.
Eggman sends another agent named Kronos to retrieve Cream. During the conflict, Gemerl is damaged. Cream hides in the attic with Anathema, who ultimately defeats Kronos. Dusk relocates Cream and her family to a hidden Restoration base for their safety. Upon arrival, Cream falls into her own coma.
Arc 4: Revelation
Dusk assigns Cream her own room and secretly allows Anathema to hide in the ceiling, though she remains deeply suspicious of her. She believes allowing Anathema to remain close to Cream could both ensure Anathema wouldn't try to hurt anyone for separating her from Cream and also put herself in a position where if Anathema did harm her, everyone would know who did it.
Blood tests conducted by Dusk reveal that small doses of Ichor are lethal, while large doses fully mutate an organic's blood cells, rendering the host permanently altered.
Cream receives visits during her coma, including from Surge, who relates to her due to her own history as an experimental subject, and later volunteers her services to the restoration to try and offer what help she can.
Cheese eventually awakens and is pulled into the vents by Anathema under the guise of protecting him from any experimentation from the restoration while Cream is not awake to advocate for him. Cheese believes her intentions are pure and willingly stays hidden.
Dusk leads a raid on Eggman’s base to retrieve the hard drive Cream had stolen and Metal had returned, believing it to contain information on the experiment that could help them find a cure. Anathema intercepts the mission, destroys the hard drive, and attacks Dusk, but is incapacitated by Surge and a Wisp-powered weapon. While the attack subdues her long enough for the raid to end, the electricity grants Anathema new energy-based powers and immunity to electrical attacks.
Having been essentially a sister of his, Anathema reveals herself to Orbot after the raid and her attack was posted online. Anathema connects to his systems and displays an altered version of what happened in order to convince him not to turn on her and instead accept her presence.
Cream briefly awakens to record a video revealing that Ichor was injected with the intention to allow her to perceive the multiverse. She explains that she now “sees it all,” all being a simplified explanation of infinity. Anathema hijacks the video and declares that no one can separate her from Cream, revealing a sigil that Cream, too, had developed on her wrist. Cream then falls unconscious again.
Anathema, frustrated with others’ constant presence and supervision of Cream, locks everyone out of Cream’s room for a brief moment alone with her. Surge sneaks in through the vents and attacks Anathema, biting her and inadvertently ingesting a small amount of Ichor. She begins experiencing withdrawal symptoms. Due to the metal virus in her body and her regenerative abilities, she is unable to die, forcing her to endure the process indefinitely. Anathema injects her with a full dose without warning.
Now beginning her own transformation, Surge begins hiding in the vents. It is revealed by Surge’s partner, Lanolin, that Surge had been experiencing pre-Ichoric dreams before the ingestion of Ana's blood, but tried to keep these to herself. It wasn't discovered until it was too late.
Anathema is captured by the Restoration and placed in a containment device that overloads her mind with useless data, effectively comatizing her. Vanilla and Gemerl are horrified to learn she had been hiding in their home and now in this base for so long.
Surge finds Cheese in the vents, who still trusts Anathema and continues to advocate for her. Even in her suspended state, Anathema maintains subtle influence over Surge, using her mental link to the internet to gently promise her a family she never had now that all of them had been bonded by blood.
Cream awakens briefly to message Surge, warning her about what the coma state is like, offering her comfort, and reaffirming her own trust in Anathema. She explains that throughout her coma, the state that was showing her the multiverse, Anathema was a constant reassuring voice, and insisted that if Surge could learn to trust her as well, her own coma could be partially managed by the hybrid. Cream goes back under after a few minutes.
During a side plot, Rough and Tumble accidentally find themselves in the restoration's base and find a box under Cream's bed with her father's name on it. It contains a diary that, after being dropped, revealed a page repeating the phrase "see it all" and a book on multiverse theory, as well as indications that Cream’s father may have experienced pre-Ichornic visions similar to Cream, Cheese, and Surge. Rough and Tumble are captured and placed within a holding cell inside the base until restoration operatives can figure out what to do with them.
Arc 5: Oops! All Trauma!
Cream awakens permanently from her coma, profoundly changed by her perception of the multiverse and struggling to regulate the overwhelming flow of information. Although she continues to trust Anathema and defends her character, she respects the Restoration’s choice to keep Anathema in containment and gently advocates for her eventual release, insisting that Surge’s injection wasn’t malicious. Meanwhile, Surge begins forming a friendship with Rough and Tumble during their detainment, and the three create a small, supportive group named "Stink Gang."
Anathema’s belief that, through her blood, Cream and Surge are bonded as sisters begins to take root emotionally, especially as Cream seeks Surge out in the vents to comfort her. However, Cream’s continued physical and cognitive changes, including new technopathic abilities and the acquisition of Anathema’s electrical powers, place immense strain on her relationship with Gemerl, who struggles to protect her from threats that now come from within. After a confrontation and moment of vulnerability, Cream and Gemerl begin to understand one another and agree to grow together through these changes.
With Vector and various other friends and loved ones joining Project Ambrosia, Cream forms a groupchat for everyone active in the restoration base to stay in contact. Being able to maintain all these relationships guides Cream to accepting Vector as a potential father figure, as well as offers her alternative sources of comfort while Anathema is locked away.
Lanolin, Surge’s ex-girlfriend, is added to Project Ambrosia, though her interactions with Surge remain tense and unresolved, implying a painful, off-screen falling out during Surge’s transformation. Metal Sonic contacts the Restoration with an offer to help, bringing data that reveals Anathema’s tragic origin: once an organic child raised as an experiment in another universe, she was thrown across the multiverse and transformed into a unique anomaly following a catastrophic failure to harness another subject's powers. Eggman discovered her in this universe and began his own experiments. The same data also reveals that Ice the Rabbit was a failed Ichor experiment who died in Eggman's trials, confirmed by his diary detailing pre-Ichor visions.
While inspecting Metal Sonic for residual Eggman tech, Cream discovers her father's preserved ring hidden in his internal systems, implying Eggman had planned for Metal’s defection. Cream reveals that Eggman has been taunting her online since her awakening, and after seeing the ring, she publicly shares this with her audience, despite having kept this to herself previously. When Eggman offers to stop tormenting her loved ones in exchange for a complete Restoration data wipe, Cream, overwhelmed and desperate to protect others, agrees. The act sparks an internal investigation, and Cream is deemed a potential risk due to her unpredictable behavior. She, Cheese, and Surge are placed on strict schedules, as it is believed the powers the Ichor grants pose a risk to Project Ambrosia.
Shortly after, Lanolin impulsively injects herself with a blood sample taken from Cream, despite knowing the dangers of Ichor. Surge, acting quickly, is forced to amputate Lanolin’s arm to prevent the mutated blood from eating her alive. The traumatic event pushes Surge further into emotional collapse. She is moved into Cream’s room, and Cream, feeling a deep responsibility as her “sister,” becomes her primary caregiver, offering constant comfort and support during her catatonic state.
As the Restoration struggles to handle the fallout, Cream continues researching her father’s fate in secret and remains cautiously receptive to Eggman's manipulations. Rough and Tumble, inspired by Surge and their friendship, formally join the Restoration. Lanolin is placed under close watch in Cream’s old room and undergoes regular psychological evaluations. Eventually, Cream’s continuous care helps coax Surge out of her paralysis and back toward recovery.
On Surge’s 22nd birthday, Cream learns of a boy named Kit who was once like a younger brother to Surge but went missing years ago. After Cream posts about it, Eggman hints at knowing what happened, and it’s implied he may be responsible.
A therapy session between Surge and Lanolin is arranged by Serenity, an axolotl therapist who had been assessing Lanolin, but the meeting ends in emotional breakdown and the two are separated again. Despite the chaos and trauma, Surge shows signs of coping, supported by her bond with Cream and the emerging belief that only those touched by Ichor can truly understand one another.Despite her earlier, briefly disclosed truce with Eggman, he grows bored and breaks it in dramatic fashion. He leaks a collection of images from Cream’s torture sessions, one of which shows Kit suffering under Ichor experiments and revealing this was the true cause of his disappearance. The leak devastates Cream and Surge alike, as all previous Ichor subjects before Cream are confirmed to be dead.Enraged, Cream retaliates by exposing Eggman’s infiltration of the Restoration group chat. He had been impersonating Veil the Serval, an actual but inactive Restoration member, to spy on their communications, made only possible by his grasp on Cream's psyche. In response, Eggman kidnaps the real Veil and forcibly integrates her into the Eggman Empire, openly blaming Cream’s “noble” attempt at truth-telling for the chain of events.*It is during Veil's capture the concept of Veil's mist is introduced. The serval can produce an anomalous black smoke from her pores with powerful hallucinogenic effects that not only challenge a person's insecurities and identities, but breaks the barrier on what's real and what isn't. There will be a page describing this phenomenon in the future, as well as a deeper dive on how this ties to the main plot.Surge has a catastrophic breakdown upon learning Kit’s fate. Vector manages to pull her back from the edge by stepping into the role of the loving father figure she never had, temporarily grounding her in reality.Meanwhile, side plots begin folding into Visionary: Cotton the Sheep, a low ranking Empire worker, forms a forbidden romance with Mimic the Octopus, while Nitinol and Chromium, Eggman’s hand-raised wardens, are introduced to the main scene after being called in from overseas missions. Sonic begins casually posting about his own adventures, though his updates also note that Eggman has been conducting widespread excavations, as if searching for something, something the Restoration quietly flags as suspicious. In the midst of her confessions, where she had ratted out Eggman's schemes, Cream admits that Anathema had physically hurt her in the past, before either of them joined the Restoration. While Cream interprets this as a misunderstanding from someone who never learned what a healthy relationship looks like, Dusk arranges a formal meeting between them to assess Ana’s mindset. Around this time, Cream begins suffering headaches when in close proximity to Ana, symptoms that grow worse as her link to the Ichor strengthens. From her containment, Anathema bypasses her restraints enough to tweet using her internal systems. She insists on her innocence, claiming she wants only the best for her “children,” though her warped definition of love remains suspicious. As Cream’s headaches intensify to the point of incapacitation, she accidentally passes through her mirror and slips into the world of Nine the fox, an alternate version of Tails, who seems to have a vague idea of who she is. The headaches vanish instantly, and she is chased back through the mirror back to her own world. While Cream adjusts to this strange realization of her power, Surge begins repairing her relationship with Lanolin, even creating her a prosthetic arm, aided by the intelligence boost the Ichor grants.
Arc 6: Veilwalkers
The Restoration stages a stealth raid on the Eggbase where Mimic is held captive. Though successful in rescuing him, the Eggpire had anticipated the attempt and lured Cream into a trap. When she connects to the base’s systems to locate Veil, Eggman floods her mind with data in a similar fashion that had kept Anathema trapped this long, forcing the team to retreat.*Some of the data unintentionally shot through her includes information on Eggman's excavations and an artifact known as "The Paradox Prism," which is believed to be a tool Eggman would want to utilize to enter the worlds his successful Ichor projects can see and evaluate. It's revealed in this moment that Nitinol/Niti had manipulated Mimic during his time hiding in the empire's vent system. Playing into the idea that she would help him from a distance, she coerced him into clueing her in on the future raid, giving the empire enough time to prepare in advance. While Mimic escapes, Cotton is left behind, still bound to the empire, and forced to undergo a cybernetic surgery that partially robotocizes her as punishment for her relationship with the octopus.Eggman escalates his psychological warfare against Cream and the Restoration by manipulating those closest to her. He coerces Mimic into impersonating Cream’s deceased father, forcing her into a deeply personal confrontation. Almost simultaneously, he engineers a trap using Cubot, who had defected against the empire but naively tried to say his farewells to his creator before his departure. When Cream inspects him for any tracking devices or dangerous eggtech, a hidden explosive is triggered, destroying Cubot and briefly disfiguring her before her regeneration kicks in. Cubot's hardware could not be salvaged. Afterwards, Eggman tempts the Restoration with an apparent olive branch: he provides Cream with a vial of Veil's mist and requests that she Veilwalk under supervision, record her findings, and report them back. In return, he would allow Mimic to make contact with his captive lover from outside the walls of the empire.
The Restoration next mounts a full-force raid to rescue Veil herself. At first, the mission goes smoothly, but Veil betrays them mid-operation, forcing multiple operatives into unwilling Veilwalks and crippling the attack. Amid the chaos, Lanolin manages to rescue Cotton from captivity. They escape with the others, but Veil remains firmly within the Eggpire. (Also, Cotton punks Chrom with a metal chair.)A large gap in time follows, during which side plots unfold in the background. Eventually, signs of Surge’s decline become impossible to ignore. She, Cream, Cheese, and Vector are granted one final “good day” outside together before Surge's coma could begin. Surge collapses into her coma mid-outing, forcing the group to rush her back to base. Unlike Cream’s near-tranquil coma, Surge’s state is agonized, leaving her trapped in constant pain.Meanwhile, Veil completes her conditioning and transitions from prisoner to full Eggman Empire operative.Dusk and Cream decide to release Anathema, who reveals that Surge’s suffering is due to the absence of her guidance within the coma. During this, Anathema abandons her Neo Metal Sonic shell and reveals her true Mobian form as Echo. As soon as she is reunited with the tenrec, Surge's pain is soothed, and she continues to lurk among the Restorations base, surprisingly well behaved. While guiding Surge through her coma, Anathema gently tries to win her trust by acting as a steady presence, but her efforts are suddenly interrupted by a manifestation of Surge’s metal virus–tainted blood, which is evolving to resist and shut out the Ichor. The clash leaves Surge twitching and squirming in her sleep. Cream interprets this as a sign of her sigil manifesting, as her and Cheese's sigil both appeared during their comas, later finding the mark etched onto Surge’s tongue. When Cream voices concern, Anathema pretends to know the reason and brushes it off, though in truth she’s unsettled and afraid.Cream, aware that Eggman had been pursuing the Paradox Prism, posts a drawing of it as a quiet signal that she’s onto him. Eggman responds by confirming his interest, setting off a race between the Restoration and the Eggpire to claim the artifact first.
QUICK LORE RECAP
Any recent events that have yet to be formatted into proper paragraphs will go here! This section of the website will likely be updated frequently!
Cream demonstrates a stronger hold of her new electrokinesis, summoning an electrical storm dedicated to Surge while she is still comatose
Upon Cream's return to the restoration, Surge has started going through physical changes the Ichor shouldn't be capable of, including a change in eye color, her eyes refocusing, and her electrical powers returning back to their natural blue.
Anathema bitterly accuses Starline of somehow being the result of this.

SPECIAL THANKS
HUGE special thanks to Kib/Kibichi for how much they provide to visionary! Not only is he a co writer, driving the plot with unrelenting passion, but she is also a co-artist!
When I first started this project, I fully intended on being the only artist throughout the entirety of it. Then, when she joined the story, she began making art on their own just for the fun of it, which happened to occur during a week where I was starting to slow down production for the first time. The breath of fresh air I experienced not carrying the weight of it all on my shoulders was like none other.
Kib has established himself as a cherished member of this community and Visionary would not have become what it is now without that.
An additional huge special thanks goes to Zim, very widely known as THE metal sonic account! Zim is the sole reason Visionary ever got on its feat and was the main support behind its early writing! Past that, he's the only reason I ever joined parody twitter to begin with! I asked for his advice on getting started after seeing his account, and he helped me set up. Visionary wouldn't even EXIST without his help!!
Another special thanks to PlaguedDeus for helping me gather all this lore in one place !! There was a lot to have to go through based on memory alone and she really busted her butt to make that happen!
Special thanks to my Co-Writers for helping keep Visionary going strong! A lot of Visionary's best moments come from the work they put in to develop this project with me!
Fishy - The longest standing co-writer, who has been around, thick and thin, since the first month of Visionary! Not only a loyal and valued member of the writing team, but one of the best friends I could ask for.
Grinch - A master writer with an unmatched passion for character commitment. Not only does it fully body it's role as Eggman, within the first hour of being a co-writer, it fixed two plotholes. There's a reason everyone in the community agreed it's promotion was the right call, Grinch is truly a.... v...vi.. visionary...
Kib - You got enough out of me already, shortass!
Plagued - The most intelligent person I know, and that is not an exaggeration. Plagued planted her feet in Visionary as the lead theorist, with so much dedication to understanding and dissecting the lore, she even made her own website for organizing her theories. Not to mention the writing style with this one. Some of the most beautiful and compelling things I've ever read.
Finally, I'd like to give a special thanks to the Visionary Discord staff for everything they do for the community- not just managing it, but representing it.
Cheebs - Cheebs has been a close friend of mine since before Visionary was even a concept. He was my first ever staff member, and helped me get our discord on it's feet. Not only that, but he is an extremely valued member of the community. A well known face, a positive energy, and overall, one of the best men I have ever met in my life.
Lails - Lails is one of the sweetest people I know. I rarely come across a person so genuine, empathetic, and unwaveringly positive as him. With not only a well established place in the Discord, Lails provides authentic friendship with just about anyone who could offer it. Also has some of the greatest vocal stims I've ever heard in my life. I even made one of them a soundboard.
... I should probably host server staff applications soon, huh?
